02 June 2025 – NSAR and the rebranded Railway Study Network (RSN) (formerly Railway Study Association and Forum) today announce a strategic partnership. This will leverage the strengths of both organisations to enhance the knowledge of the rail workforce.
The RSN is a highly regarded association with over 100 years of railway history, which has been all about networking, learning and sharing lived experiences. Its membership is drawn from a wide range of backgrounds and expertise – embracing operations, strategy, engineering, finance, business planning, project management, marketing and consultancy. It is operated on a voluntary basis, so partnering with NSAR will help RSN reach an even more diverse audience.
RSN is also pleased to announce a new corporate membership scheme, of which the Rail Delivery Group has confirmed it will be the headline partner for the next two years.
The first event for the new partnership is the evening of 11 June 2025, where the Chief Executive of NSAR and President of RSN, Neil Robertson, will interview Rob McIntosh, Chair of the TransPennine Route Upgrade. The event will be hosted by Ashurst, a leading international law firm at their London office in Spitalfields, near Liverpool St station.
Neil Robertson, CEO of NSAR and the new President and Chair of Railway Study Network, said: “Good industries create opportunities for people to learn from each other across companies and disciplines. The newly re-launched Rail Study Network’s summer programme will do just that.”
Jacqueline Starr, Chair and CEO of Rail Delivery Group and former Railway Study Network President, said: “In the 200th year since the birth of rail, I am delighted Rail Delivery Group is able to partner with NSAR. This partnership will help to foster the next generation of talent to deliver the skills needed for rail to thrive in the future.”
Neil Micklethwaite, Railway Study Network Committee Member and former Railway Study Network President, said: “I am thrilled that the Railway Study Network, now in its 116th year, is working with NSAR, which is all about the future generations of the railway. The Railway Study Network remains focused on knowledge sharing, opinion pieces and the ability for all involved in the railway to connect with others in the railway – no matter their background.”
