
The Railway Study Network are delighted to present Rob McIntosh, Network Rail Route Managing Director and Chair of the TransPennine Route Upgrade Board in conversation with Neil Robertson, CEO of National Skills Academy for Rail.
Rob McIntosh is the Chair of the TransPennine Route Upgrade Board and Network Rail Route Managing Director responsible for the operations, maintenance, renewal and enhancement of the east coast mainline, midland main line and the eastern TransPennine route. He works with the mayors and devolved authorities across the North of England to help design and set-up Great British Railways in the North. Rob was previously the Managing Director for the North West and Central Region and Managing Director of Eastern Region. Rob began his career on the railway as a graduate overhead line engineer in York. Rob worked in a number of roles at Network Rail, including programme director on Crossrail and before that as project director for the European Train Control System and Traffic Management.
Neil Robertson joined NSAR in 2015 from the utility sector, where he was CEO of the Energy & Utility Skills Group. Before this, he was CEO of the British Institute of Innkeeping, a professional body and awarding organisation. Prior to these sectoral CEO roles, he held senior positions in government departments for education and business, where he had responsibilities in skills, employability, English and migration, regional economic development and European Structural Funds. Neil has also worked with Babcock, City & Guilds and the Scottish Qualifications Authority. He started working life as a trainee quantity surveyor for GA Group, before studying and tutoring at Edinburgh University, specialising in socioeconomic theory. It provides a forum for the exchange of experience, knowledge and opinion on issues relating to all aspects of the railway industry.
