Who we are
The National Skills Academy for Rail (NSAR) is a not-for-profit membership organisation established in 2010. We provide expert skills and workforce consultancy services to businesses in the rail, transport and infrastructure sectors.
We have a specialist team of consultants that support our member organisations and clients with a range of services – workforce analysis and planning, quality assurance of rail industry training providers and apprenticeship support.
We are also the leading organisation on key industry projects including the TIES Living Lab and Routes into Rail.

We use our Skills Intelligence Model (SIM) to guide government, industry and business decision-making on future skills and investment requirements.
We provide quality assurance and compliance services to ensure training providers are delivering high-quality programmes that the industry can trust.
We use our Skills ID competency management system (CMS) to help businesses understand their staff competencies, qualifications and training plans.
We help employers with a variety of apprenticeship services – including support with apprenticeship levies and apprenticeship programme planning and assessment.
We provide access to a membership body of key industry players to share knowledge and best practice.
We represent and champion the shared interests of the Skills, Education and Railway sectors in government planning and investment decisions.
