Skills Live is a digital platform that rail industry employers can use to connect with young people who may not have considered careers in rail. Using video, Skills Live works to address the skills shortage by:

  1. Enabling employers to showcase a  range of job roles in rail.
  2. Supporting employers by promoting greater diversity in the workplace.

Watching a 10 second video highlight, a user can swipe to confirm their like/dislike of a role, similar to popular dating apps. Based on likes, the user can learn more about the skills of a role by watching a series of 1-2 min videos that are linked to a job specification. They will be tested on their understanding of each video and awarded a score with the most suitable candidates being presented to the employer for review.

The video based platform has been funded by UFI Trust and has been developed in partnership with TfL, Network Rail,  and Go-Ahead Group, and Dept for Work & Pensions who understand alternative ways are needed to recruit new talent and increase diversity.
