Consistent Benchmarks to Drive Improved Performance in Construction Projects

The Transforming Construction Network Plus is undertaking a series of projects to support its aim of stimulating, enabling and amplifying innovation.  This survey is being undertaken by the University of Dundee and Whole Life Consultants Ltd in collaboration with the DfT.  The project aims to identify the performance indicators used by major infrastructure clients and contractors, determine the similarities and differences, and explore the potential appetite for the adoption of a common, consistent set of indicators that will drive the development of benchmarks to improve performance.

The high-level survey intends to identify those areas of performance which are seen to be most important and which contribute to successful project delivery.  Further detail relating to performance indicators used, the data on which they are based, and the benefits and challenges of sharing data will be extracted in a series of follow-up telephone interviews and workshops.  The survey outputs will be used to complement existing studies and additional ongoing work by other industry bodies including the Construction Leadership Council, BRE’s Construction Innovation Hub and the Innovate UK AIMCH project.
