The DfT has published the timely Skills Forecasting Baseline Study which was commissioned by the Strategic Transport Apprenticeship Taskforce (STAT). The report contains:
- an analysis of the existing road and rail workforce
- a review of secured and assumed investment plans in the rail and road sector
- an outcome on what determines the future workforce required to deliver rail and road projects successfully
STAT was set up to deliver the Transport infrastructure skills strategy (TISS). STAT also commissioned National Skills Academy for Rail to develop a skills forecasting model, commonly known as “The SIM”. The tool uses statistical data on today’s workforce and future investment plan levels to forecast the future required workforce and was applied in the creation of the Baseline Study Report.
